Seedy K’s Peerless Pigskin Prognostications: Week XV

Edited 12/11 8:15 AM. How ’bout that Coastal Carolina?

As predicted here, the Chanticleers prevailed last weekend.

Of course, there is the minor differentiation in that the vanquished was Brigham Young, not the intended foe Liberty. So, in the interest of ethics, truth, justice, and the American way, I shall put the game down in the DNP column, as opposed to heralding it as a correct prognostication.

After all, it’s the right thing to do.

What a battle it was, ending when five CC secondary defenders in teal and black swarmed a Cougars receiver, stopping him short of the goal line as the clock struck zero zero colon zero zero.

How sweet and fitting. Because, you understand, BYU, which appearing to look like it desired enhancing its easy schedule, said it would “play anyone anytime anywhere,” when it really wouldn’t. Truth be told, Washington of the PAC12 offered them a game, to which the previously undefeated against jayvee competition Cougars said, “Uh no.”

Sayonara.

Purdue also fell. While Texas A&M, Iowa State, and Kentucky all prevailed as you would have known would happen from reading me last week here. Which victory the Wildcats celebrated by firing their OC, and another coordinator.

3-1-1 on the weekend, raises my tally to 44-25-6 for the year.

Not bad, considering all that’s happening off the field which is affecting who actually takes to gridiron, as well as how they perform.

This week’s winners:

Navy @ Army.  Forget the pageantry of this, the most beloved of all the college pigskin rivalries. For reasons not requiring explanation, there shall be no marching of the corps of Cadets and Middies, no appearance by the president trying to show what a patriot he is, no neutral site. The game’s at West Point. We shall watch anyway, because, even though there will be competition on the telly, it’s what we Americans do. Navy broke a three game losing skein with a rousing 31-7 win last year. But recently, they followed three straight DNPs with a couple Ls, and stand 3-6. The West Pointers are 7-2. It’s always a crap shoot, this battle. I’m going with the homies. Long Gray Line.

Georgia @ Missouri.  It would not be a stretch to advise that Tiger fans are somewhat more enamored with their former App State coach, than Louisville fans are these days with theirs. Eli Drinkwitz broke even his first season in Columbia, after one campaign as head man in Boone. But Top 25 Mizzou is 5-3 with a couple of Ws in a row. The Bulldogs are a disappointing 6-2, having lost to both Bama and Gators, SEC’s elite. But they’re better than the rest. OK, maybe not A&M. But certainly Missouri.

North Carolina @ Miami.  The #10 Hurricanes are a truly quiet 7-1, the only blemish, a 17-42 thrashing from Clemson. I never bought into the Tar Heel hype. Which skepticism has paid off, since the Baby Blues have fallen to good Notre Dame, mediocre UVa, and horrid Florida State.  The game’s in the Sunshine State. It’s all over now, Baby Blue.

Purdue @ Indiana.  Rolling they might be, but the Hoosiers have “paused” football activities, because of . . . oh, I’m so tired of writing it. So, this annual battle for the Old Oaken Bucket may not come about. No announcements as of this writing.

Uh, oops, nevermind. Just double checked. Cancelled.

Wake Forest @ Louisville.  I shall admit being more than a little surprised at the level of vitriol present in the reaction of many Cardinal fans to Coach Satterfield’s conversation with South Carolina. If only for his sake, as well as to help with some badly needed healing, I hope U of L prevails. Last year’s game, which seemed to take about fifteen hours to finish was a doozy. Red & Black won by the b-ball score of 62-59, secured when TuTu Atwell recovered the last of at least a dozen onside kicks. Oh yeah, that ace wideout is now “former Cardinal,” having opted out to prep for the next level. The Demon Deacons are always a tough foe. Saturday shall be no different. Cards in a squeaker.
