Louisville CardFile: Arkansas State

Louisville 63, Arkansas State 75.

There is no defense.

Literally.

Figuratively.

It was how another underwhelming foe scored at will driving the lane. On U of L’s own Dunking Cardinal hardwood.

The Red Wolves bested the Cardinals on points in paint 48-28. After intermission the victors tallied 32 in the lane, matching U of L’s total from anywhere.

State did not make a FG in the final 4:18. Won by a dozen.

U of L ended the game on a 7-0 run over the final 1:52. To cut the final deficit to 12.

The smaller squad, the ones wearing red, outrebounded the home team by 5, winning the 2d chance point battle by 9.

U of L had 5 assists on 22 made field goals. Arkansas State had 13, canning 8 more FG.

Worst of all, the University of Louisville Cardinals quit.

Quit.

 * * * * *

And that more dismaying than ever L might not have been the U of L Basketball Program’s most discomposing act of the day.

The manner in which the school handled the end of Koron Davis’s membership on the squad was, at the very least, hamhanded. Woefully embarrassing.

If you don’t want to reveal the details of the schism, to leave the public dangling dangling in the wind, fine. At least report the truth how the relationship became final.

Attendance was, given the context of the past half century, incomprehensible. The Yum! was empty.

My heart is crying.

  1. I peeked in for literally :45 with us down double digits and the crowd appeared numb or sedated or both .. this is so far beyond repair that Koron Davis seems to be the only one getting out of town !

  2. Johnson had 3 assists in the first 5 minutes. We then went about 25 minutes with zero assists until Johnson got another. I didn’t notice who had the 5th assist. Johnson is the only guy who seems to know how to play offense with others. Like his teammates he struggles defensively

  3. I had to turn it off. Been a devoted fan 50 years and the pain of watching the lost boys is unbearable

  4. Line the players and the Coach, and the majority or the (whats left of ) the fans, I quit. QUIT. Never been a quitter, but here we are.

  5. Change needs to happen soon so that a message is sent that this is not acceptable. Heird’s back is against the wall. This is next level bad. I was of the opinion that a mid-season firing did nobody any favors, but this situation is so crushingly awful that I think it is the best thing to do. I dread the UK game so much that I may not go. I never would have imagined feeling that way.

  6. Did Payne ever think about using a zone to stop the drive to the basket. Arkansas St shot 20% – 20 % from 3 – our game has gone done the toilet.

  7. I stayed to the bitter end. Never have so few witnessed so bad. Yeh, they QUIT. Outmanned? Outclassed? Outcoached? Or were they just saying “KP”, we don’t care for your program? Was this a quiet rebellion? You decide.
    They shoot horses, don’t they??

  8. UofL had three turnovers in the first 2 minutes. However, the team led at halftime by 2. Arkansas St. scored on layup after layup in the second half. UoL made no adjustments. I do not see the team winning a game for the rest of the season. It is worse than sad.
