Friday Noise & Nonsense

Be still my beating heart.

My favorite Cardinal pigskinner ever, Teddy Bridgewater is joining my Detroit Lions as Jared Goff’s backup.

Let’s hope he never has to play.

Let’s hope he fashions the most unique double in the history of football. Coaching a HS state champ, getting a Super Bowl ring that same season.

Teddy B is not the only U of L connection on the Lions. Among the 19 Lions on the IR is one Jaylen Reeves-Maybin. Son of Cardinal Marques.

Seems there’s an equivalent in the college ranks to Lions’ innovative OC Ben Johnson — the leader in the clubhouse dubbed Next Big Thing.

His name: Will Stein.

The Oregon Duck OC shared that QB room at Louisville with Bridgewater, after playing at Trinity.

We break into the regularly scheduled programming for this gratuitous self promotion.

In the wake of the new biopic, I have posted a piece about Bob Dylan at my vanity site.

If son inclined, you can read it here.

And another one bites the dust.

Old school college coach, that is.

This time Miami Hurricane hoops mentor, Jim Larrañaga.

Of the new NIL era, he said, “I’m exhausted.”

He realized it was a new kind of game, when 8 members of his Final Four team told him soon after they were entering the portal.

Wonder if he knows that the U’s fatcat booster Nevin Shapiro just got his federal sentence commuted?

By the by, since 2020, the ACC has seen the retirement of hoops coaches responsible for 30 Final Fours and 10 nattys.

Roy Williams, Coach K, Jim Boeheim, Mike Brey and Tony Bennett along with Larrañaga.

Tis a young man’s game.

Grateful my school’s got one.

Out of work Pete Carroll has expressed interest in the Chicago Bears job.

Yo, Pete, Marshawn Lynch wants a word.

In case you missed it, and you probably did, and I frankly tuned in right near the end when it was getting seriously wacked, Toledo handed Pitt their six straight L (after opening the season 7-0) 48-46 in the GameAbove Sports Bowl.

Which game has been known through the years as the Quick Lane Bowl, the Motor City Bowl, the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl.

Do not inquire as to the origin of the game’s new commercial sponsor. Got no clue.

Six OTs.

17 lead changes.

A handful of, uh, dustups.

And two premature victory stormings of the gridiron by Rockets’ fans and players.

  1. Teddy was AWSOME, if he hadn’t had a freak non contact injury he would have been an all time great in the NFL
